Minutes of the O.P.E.N. Monthly Board Meeting

14 July 2010 

Meeting called to order at Newton Public Library by Vice President John McNeer.
Board members present: David Pitz, Rose Trapp, Larry Hesson, Maxine Udelhoven, Tom
Mott, Warren Erickson, Marvin Campbell, Grant Worthington, Joan Tyler, Barry Hurto.

Fritz Kramer, Tom Hoover, Vlad Bassis, Irina Bassis, and Jane Ann Cotton notified O.P.E.N.
they could not attend.

Minutes of the 2 June 2010 monthly meeting approved as distributed electronically.

Treasurer’s Reports filed for audit.

Student Update. Cotton continues to seek a host family for the student from Wu Chi Town.
McNeer suggests email circulation of her biography to the board members.

Sculpture Project. The sculpture project, plus the journalist project that grew from it, raised
about $6000 donations cash, and over $60,000 donations in kind. The original budget
covers the project except for the need to rent a van to travel to Mt. Rushmore with the
larger group. Campbell moves appropriation $474.47 to cover the added expense. Pitz
seconds. Motion carried. A date will be set for the dedication.

Trip to Ukraine. Hurto reports on his trip to Smila and other places in Ukraine.

Unfinished Business. Culture Class. Tyler reports Sheri Doane scheduled meetings.
Regarding the classes in October 2010 on Netherlands, expect an announcement for the
classes soon. The focus for 2011 may focus on Mexico, followed by a January 2012 trip
and education in Merida, where Central has longstanding ties and a Yucatan campus.

New Business. John reports the September visit of a former guest from Kaiserslautern,
Germany, will be discussed more thoroughly in a future meeting.
